Disabled sailing has empowered, motivated and enhanced the lives of people living with disabilities across the country and beyond.
Although it is a relatively newer sport with a sparser history, it continues to attract people to the water and provide opportunities for challenge, excitement and freedom.
In Newfoundland and Labrador, such a sport has never truly been introduced, but there is a solid effort today to change that. The Royal Newfoundland Yacht Club and its volunteers will be hosting the first location of this program in Newfoundland and Labrador and hope that it will grow in the years to come.
As a result, Able Sail NL has been formed, an organization with the mission to relieve conditions associated with disability by providing specially adapted sail boats, sailing programs and facilities for people with various disabilities.
